Romance Readers Voice Their Concerns

Romance novelist Sophie Lark feels the heat from readers’ outcry over her newest novel, Sparrow and the Vine. Readers have found some of the dialogue to be racist, as well as her praise of Elon Musk.

Her publisher, Bloom Books, has selfed the series about a woman who enters a marriage of convenience to have her family winery.

Potlics have infused every aspect of our culture. Boycotting brands, stores, restaurants, and industries that don’t align with your beliefs is an effective way to have your voice heard. With expected cuts pending for Medicaid, Medicare, and Veterans’ services, it’s time to take a stand either for or against.

Writer Sophie Lark has apoligized to her fans and has defended Bloom Books, noting that the editors requested removing the lines that have caused controversy prior to publication. However, Sophie Lark opted to keep them in the book. She defended her decision stating that the “The lines were intended to depict a flawed character.” She stipulated she will listen more closely to the sensitivity of her readers and educate herself on responsible storytelling.
