There’s no one-size-fits-all diabetes diet per se, but understanding how to make smart food choices is essential for keeping blood sugars in a healthy range.
One good choice is to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, which are heavy in nutrition but light in calories. You can pack a lot of nutrition into one smoothie and get a delicious treat. As long as you stick with healthy ingredients and don’t add extra sweeteners, you can enjoy these treats on a regular basis.
Just remember when you do blend fruit into your smoothies to count them as part of your daily fruit allowance so you don’t overdo it on carbohydrates. Even natural sugar can drive up your blood sugar if you eat too much of it according to Everyday Health.

The pelvic floor includes the muscles, ligaments and connective tissue in the lowest part of the pelvis. It supports your organs, including the bowel, bladder, uterus, vagina, and rectum. The pelvic floor prevents these organs from falling down or out of your body. It also helps the organs function properly.
Mismanaged diabetes can weaken the pelvic floor muscles. A damaged pelvic floor weakens normal functioning of the bowel, bladder, uterus, vagina, and rectum can be affected. In plain English, people with mismanaged diabetes may experience an overactive bladder, poor control of sphincter muscles that surround the urethra, urine retention, and urinary tract infections.
Pelvic floor symptoms are significantly associated with reduced sexual arousal, infrequent orgasm, and painful intercourse (known in medical terms as dyspareunia).
Getting Help
There’s no question that incontinence can have a significant impact on the quality of life. Unfortunately urinary incontinence can be uncomfortable to talk about with anyone including your doctor. But talking is the first step to getting properly treated and taking back control of your life.
Once you have a conversation, your doctor may refer you to a specialist for follow-up care.

I’ve been craving smoothies ever since Special Guest: Jill Weisenberger MS, RDN, CDCES, CHWC, FAND shared her Very Berry Smoothie recipe on Divabetic’s At Home Scavenger Hunt & Smoothie Party on Zoom last week.
Everyone might think that all smoothies are ‘healthy’ but that’s just a bit of wishful drinking. In reality, many of the most readily available smoothies in America also contain loads of calories, added sugars and carbohydrates.
Some fruits naturally contain more carbohydrates than others, so the type of fruit you choose put in your smoothie is important. Raspberries (15 g carbs), blackberries (14 g carbs) and avocados (12 g carbs) are low in carbohydrates compared to bananas (27 g carbs) and mangos (50 g carbs).
A typical commercially prepared 16-ounce strawberry smoothie made with fruit and 2 percent milk can contain a total of 60 grams of carbohydrates, including 41 grams from sugar according to SFGATE.
Divabetic Berry & Avocado Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients
1/2 cup of blackberries
1/2 cup of raspberries
1/2 avocado (sliced)
1/2 cup of Almond Milk
1 teaspoon of Monk fruit Sweetener
1 tablespoon of Yogurt (nonfat)
Instructions
Place all ingredients in a blender. Process until smooth (about a minute). Served chilled.

We spoke to Janis Roszler LMFT, RD, LD/N, CDE, FAND on May’s Diabetes Late Nite podcast about ‘sex and intimacy issues’ for men and women with diabetes. LISTEN NOW
During the conversation we discussed that it’s common for women with diabetes to experience vaginal dryness. For this reason, lubricants can be a lifesaver in the bedroom. But if you pick the wrong one, it can be seriously harmful to your diabetes health.
Women with diabetes should avoid lubricants containing glycerin, a sugar alcohol. Too much of this sugar alcohol can lead to bacterial growth and yeast infections and UTIs.
Something to keep in mind is that many organic lubes or other glycerin free lubes use sweeteners other than sugar, such as aspartame. While this is great for those who cannot have sugar, others should keep this in mind as some people have negative reactions to aspartame. Knowing your own body and its reactions to various chemicals, and even natural sweeteners, can help you to make better decisions about the type or brand of lube you want to use.
One of the safest bets for women with diabetes is a high quality silicone lubricant. No studies have shown people having reactions to pure silicone lubricant, and many higher end versions, just as Pjur Bodyglide and Gun Oil only have four or five ingredients, most of them different types of silicone or silicone blends.
Liquid Silk and Play are two brands of water-based lubricant that do not contain glycerin.

Diabetes Late Nite is a fast-paced, full-filled hour of diabetes education and wellness advice that encourages listeners to “laugh a little, learn a lot’.
An orgasm is a sought-after sexual reward, but for people with diabetes it can feel like a quest for fire and/or unattainable goal. And, yes, we’re talking about women and men here.
Achieving an orgasm might take a lot of work, fantasy, time and patience which could lead to a low blood sugar.
I spoke with Janis Rozsler MS, RD, LD/N, CDE, FAND (2008-2009 Diabetes Educator of the Year (AADE) on our Diabetes Late Nitepodcast about how to treat low blood sugars in the bedroom. The question really isn’t about how to treat a low blood sugar, it’s about to treat it without wrecking the mood.
So how do you treat you blood sugars without losing out on the spontaneity.
“Keep things in their nightstands like a snack and check your blood sugars before going into the bedroom,” says Janis. “You can also incorporate food into your sexual play like strawberries and chocolates and whipped cream.You need to test what works for you,” says Janis.
If low blood sugar at night is a common problem for you, talk to your doctor about changing your diabetes treatment plan to better control your nighttime glucose levels.
