Divabetics just want to have fun!

Join us for our Seventh Anniversary of diabetes podcasting with musical inspiration from Cyndi Lauper.

In the 30 plus years since Cyndi Lauper released her career-defining hit, Girls Just Want To Have Fun has been described as a “rebellious sing-along” and an “feminist anthem”.

The song’s music video was one of the first to feature women of multiple races. The one thing I really wanted was to have multi-racial girls so that every little girl could actually see herself in it, and it would be kind of contagious that everyone was entitled—no matter what race or color or anything—you were entitled to this joyful experience, Cyndi Lauper said.

The result was a song and video that caught the attention of the mainstream by defying it. For a minute, I made it popular to be the odd guy out, Lauper said. All of the sudden, the straight guy was the odd guy out, just for a minute—and that, to me, was justice.

Cyndi’s music is the perfect soundtrack for Summer. There’s nothing better than enjoying the warm weather and summer celebrations. But if you’re thinking of taking a vacation from your diabetes self-care, think twice. The warm weather is a time to be more diligent about many aspects of your diabetes management. Doing so can make summer more enjoyable for you. Our team of experts share tips specifically for when the temperatures start to rise. We’re talking about safe pedicures, how to properly store your insulin, swim with an insulin pump and be more mindful of the calories you’re drinking during the Summer months.

Guests included Susan Weiner RD, MS, CDE, CDN , Megrette Fletcher MEd, RD, CDE, Poet Lorraine Brooks, the Charlie’s Angels of Outreach and Mama Rose Marie.

Throughout this podcast we will be playing selected songs from the Essential Collection of Cyndi Lauper courtesy of SONY Music.
